The TAPS Focused Assessment plans provide activities and assessment indicators to support judgements, which can be used formatively to support pupil learning, and inform summative judgements when needed.
For example, during a Year 1 (age 5-6) discussion with pupils exploring plant parts, the teacher made notes about the children’s understanding of leaves and roots. She also noted any pertinent comments from individuals about plant structure. Using these brief notes of what had just been heard and observed, together with the TAPS plan assessment indicators, the teacher made judgements about whether the pupils were meeting the objective for plant structure.
