How is forest school different today?
Repeat visits to the same place through the changing seasons supports the children to activate their prior knowledge about the place and further build their schema. For example, in their pre-school year (age 3-4), children from Noah’s Ark Pre-school make regular visits to some woodland nearby. This occasion followed a period of rain and the children were able to make observations about how the area was different to last time, e.g. the logs were more slippery and the mud was more sticky (see Learning story for more detail).
