Enhancing provision to maintain science focus

When a nursery child (age 3-4) began exploring rolling balls in the outdoor area, the practitioner supported further exploration of forces by providing a range of guttering to make progressively longer routes for the balls. Enhancing provision in the way maintained the focus on scientific exploration, with other children also joining in the problem solving. Such experiences would support schema building by developing understanding of cause and effect by rolling on different surfaces. (See Learning story for more info).
