A key purpose of Concept Cartoons is to stimulate discussion and exploration of children’s ideas. When schools were partially closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Claire Horne asked her Year 6 children who were based at home to discuss a heart rate Concept Cartoon with their family. In some cases, this led to rich discussion and exploration of the impact of exercise or head stands on heart rate. She asked them to back up their thinking with evidence they had seen/experienced in or out of school.
