Rich talk in the outdoors

With Covid-19 guidance suggesting we spend more time outdoors, teachers are finding that rich discussion can take place when exploring the outside world.

For example, when bug hunting and exploring habitats a Year 3 child found a crevice in a tree trunk.  With all of the children busy exploring nearby, the teacher was able to spend time on in-depth discussion with the child.  They talked about what creatures he had found and discussed why they might live there.  Such sustained dialogues supports both pupil learning and teacher assessment.
