Paul Tyler began to collate Topical Science links for his local colleagues in 2013, but found that there was so much interest in his work, that he started to share them more regularly and more widely. In recent years, he has produced a free monthly newsletter called Topical Science Updates which highlights three or four current science stories, with links to articles, video clips and resources to use in class. These topical news stories can provide contexts for science-based debates and discussions.

Such a resource supports understanding of both local and global and local issues, together with developing a sense of the way science is important in ‘real life’, helping to build science capital.
