Focused recording ensures that the children focus on key learning which the teacher can then assess. By only recording against the objective the teacher can assess understanding of this principle.
In this example the teacher has focused the learning on the children being able to find a pattern in the results they discover and draw a conclusion based on this (Reporting and presenting findings from enquiries, including conclusions, causal relationships.) The children’s ability to write a generalisation provides clear evidence that they are able to see the pattern in the data and understand the implications.
