Retrieval starters

Beginning the lesson with a little reminder of what came before can support children to remember and embed their learning. Retrieval strategies include:

-Paired/class talk to apply vocabulary to a familiar or new example

-‘Flashback’ questions about previous lessons/topics

-Naming objects or labelling diagrams

-Ordering cards/pictures e.g. life cycle

If linked to the current lesson topic, this can also help to make links to prior learning.
