Adapting planning

The plans for the term are not written beforehand, the focus and order for lessons is flexible to take account of children’s interests, topical events and, most importantly, the needs of the individuals within the class.

Staff record coverage on a Planning Framework which contains the yearly objectives, to help decide what to do next. This provides a record of learning opportunities, there is no assumption that all children in the year will be focusing on the same objectives in each lesson, since the focus may change for particular individuals within the class.  For example, in a lesson on properties of materials: for some, the objective would be to name the materials; for others, it would be to identify properties; whilst a further group’s objective would be to link properties to their uses. Thus lesson plans can list a range of objectives representing the variety of opportunities within the lesson.
