In order to support the children to reflect on and verbalise their experiences of the continuous provision in the sand area, the practitioner set up a provocation. The nursery children (age 3-4) were asked to discuss and demonstrate the making of a sandcastle with wet and dry sand (for more info see Learning story). This problem solving reflection time supported the children to revisit (retrieve) their experiences in the sand tray and verbalise the difference between wet and dry sand.
