Using PLAN to develop shared understanding

Staff were introduced to the PLAN assessment resources (see weblink below). They provide a summary of key learning objectives for each unit in the English National Curriculum, together with a collection of one pupil’s work.  The planning matrices and collections help teachers to understand the national curriculum objectives and what ‘secure’ looks like.  The PLAN project planning matrices and the assessment grids give teachers guidance in making judgements of the children.

The PLAN resources can be used in a variety of ways to develop a shared understanding of progression in science.  For example, teachers have annotated the planning matrices to support them with lesson ideas (pictured), whilst the subject leader used examples from the collections to run a staff meeting on different ways of recording in science.
