Home-school outdoor challenges to build shared understanding
Covid-19 school closures have led to a greater emphasis on building relationships with parents and developing home-school links. This can support the development of a shared understanding of the importance of science.
For example, the Wildlife Trust’s ‘30 days wild challenge’ was set as home learning at X school. Similar challenges include the ‘Great Bug Hunt’ and the ‘Big Garden Birdwatch’. On this occasion, the home challenge led one child to identify an Elm tree that had not been affected by the disease and they are now sending samples to a national project.
