Children can need support to see that science is ‘for them’. One way of enhancing their science capital is to share learning with others, with children and parents seeing that science is of interest to all.
Peel Primary School have used Twitter to share with science learning with parents, carers and the wider community. Another way to enhance science capital through parental involvement included parent visits to talk about their jobs e.g. a food nutritionist visited and showed the children how to read nutritional labels and skills she needs in her work. Parents are also invited to join in with the after school science club and the whole school science week activities. For example, when there was a STEM Scots focus, one Primary 3 girl went home and researched more about her scientist and informed her parents she would like to learn more about the topic.
